Error: Windows cannot defragment this drive ...(due to incorrect version).
Error:
Windows cannot defragment this drive. Make sure the disk is formatted and free of errors. Then try defragmenting the drive again. ID No: DEFRAG0026
Cause:
The version of DEFRAG.EXE being used to defragment the FAT32 drive is an incorrect version.
Solution:
Extract and use the version of Defrag.exe that comes with Windows 95 OEM Service Release 2 CD-ROM.
1) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
2) Select 'Programs' and select 'MS-DOS Prompt'. (The 'MS-DOS' window appears.)
3) To rename Defrag.exe, type the following at the DOS prompt, and press ENTER:
REN DEFRAG.EXE DEFRAG.OLD
4) Insert the Windows 95 OEM Service Release 2 CD into the CD-ROM drive.
5) Type the following command at the DOS prompt, and press ENTER:
EXTRACT <x>:\WIN95\SYSTEM\WIN95_06.CAB DEFRAG.EXE /L <z>:\WINDOWS
(where <x> is the letter of the CD-ROM and <z> is the letter of the hard drive containing the WINDOWS folder).
